The transportation of project cargo from one country to another requires a global office and partner network with the required project cargo experience. This case study describes the successful door-to-door delivery of pneumatic rubber fenders from Qingdao, China to Altamira, Mexico despite the challenges faced during the Christmas and New Year period.
Background:
Pneumatic rubber fenders are used to protect ships during ship-to-ship and ship-to-dock operations. In this case, the shipment consisted of 5 x 40’ FR containers of pneumatic rubber fenders that were transported from Qingdao, China to Altamira, Mexio. The shipment was organized by Access World Shanghai and its overseas network partner.
Challenges:
The challenges faced during the transportation of the pneumatic rubber fenders was the time-sensitive nature of the shipment, ensuring a direct routing without any transshipment was secured as well as the ETA at POD (Port of Destination) falling within the Christmas and New Year period. This period is associated with abnormal load embargoes on National roads. However, Access World and its network partners managed to achieve on-time delivery despite these challenges.
Scope of Work:
The scope of work for the transportation of the pneumatic rubber fenders included EXW (Ex-Works) collection, container stuffing, lashing & securing, export customs clearance, ocean freight, unpacking, surveying and abnormal trucking to the project site. This involved careful planning and coordination to ensure that the goods were transported safely and efficiently.
XLP Member used at POD:
To ensure that the shipment was delivered successfully from POD to site, Access World engaged the services of R.H. Shipping & Chartering S de RL de CV, an XLP member based in Manzanillo, Mexico. The XLP member was responsible for ensuring that the goods were cleared and unpacked for breakbulk transport from Manzanillo to the final delivery address in Altamira, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
