WWPC member Express Global Logistics defies heavy storm in South of Spain project movement
Jun 05, 2014
Express Global Logistics PVT LTD (former Express Transport Pvt Ltd), a member of the Worldwide Project Consortium WWPC in India, a renowned name in the project logistics field, recently executed a cement mill project in Spain.
Almonaster la Real being the destination in Spain, involved shipping of two 57 ton mill shell measuring 9 x 5.5 x 5.5 meter each, four 38 ton mill heads measuring 5.5 x 5.5 x 2 meter each and various accessories.
The desired port nearest to the final destination Almonaster la Real was Huelva port in the south of Spain. Huelva port being a small low traffic port with majority of coaster and barges operating in this region, is very difficult to operate for larger sized vessels berthing prospects.
With delivery deadline proceeding near and non availability of a direct sailing from Mumbai port to Huelva port, EXG shipped all these cargos to Antwerp onboard a Rickmers Linie vessel. Transit time was on a fixed schedule, however on the west bound lap from Mumbai to Antwerp the ship was delayed due to have taken refuge under storm at Gibraltar for almost 10 days plus, thus posing a great challenge to EXG to deliver the cargos on time.
In order to compensate the delay EXG had to charter a small coaster gearless vessel which was kept waiting for 2-3 days and docking alongside the Rickmers vessel from which the cargo was discharged direct onto the coaster and immediately secured and sailed to Huelva port within the next 5 days.
At the Port of Huelva cargos were discharged using Heavylift shore cranes from the ship’s hold by tandem operation and loaded on to hydraulic axles and transported to final receiver’s facility within the next 24 hours with all custom documentations and road permits done in advance.
