UTC Overseas, Houston-based experts in project cargo logistics and management, has named Bob Felix to UTC’s Rail Logistics team as Director of Specialized Projects. “Felix brings our team strong and extensive experience in heavy rail transport and logistics,” noted UTC Project Director James Lange.
“After Vietnam-era Navy service, Bob received his BA in Economics and Business Management from Northern Illinois University in 1980. Part-time work for UPS while in college led to initial work in the heavy-haul trucking sector, and then into heavy rail transport services.
“In the early 90s, Bob spearheaded the establishment of a new rail department for a major project cargo firm. In 2004, he founded Specialized Rail Transport (SRT), and has served as its President since inception. He has also served as an active member of the Railway Industrial Clearance Association (RICA) and the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) for the past 26 years.
“Felix’s experience includes a wide range of complex project moves. His distinguished and varied portfolio includes: heavy-haul truck transport of auto plant presses and construction machinery; rail transport of a wide range of nuclear components including a 700-ton reactor vessel from Canada to Kansas; rail transport of wind generation components (including the first ever ship-to-rail loading in this sector); oversight of route clearances for heavy and oversized loads; acquisition of an outside logistics firm providing in-house rail and truck logistics services for a major global OEM, including management and operation of 20- and 22-axle Schnabel cars; and development and purchase of a 20-axle flat deck railcar to his company’s design.
“Bob’s addition to our rail logistics team is a real asset for UTC customers. His role will further enhance our service offerings to shippers in the over dimensional market. Bob’s knowledge, experience, and long record of service to our industry are invaluable resources,” Lange concluded.
“We are happy and proud to welcome Bob to our team, which will further foster our industry foothold for specialized rail projects,” added Matt Loll, UTC’s Vice President for North American Project Development.
Marco Poisler, UTC COO Global Energy and Capital Projects said “Bob Felix has been a mentor for over 20 years, and as past President of RICA he has supported UTC’s Safety Committee initiative. We are excited to offer our clients his specialized transport experience.”
Felix added, “I am honored to join UTC. They are best in the business of global specialized logistics. New and existing customers will surely benefit from the combination of years of heavy rail transport experience and UTC’s global reach.”
