Unique transport of a container crane at Broekman Logistics
Jun 16, 2016
Rotterdam - Today and tomorrow, a unique load-out of a container crane will take place at the Broekman Logistics Breakbulk Terminal (Broekman Project Services) in the Waalhaven, Rotterdam.
The Liebherr crane is more than 50 meters high, weighs 700 tonnes and was built by Sarens with the assistance of Broekman Project Services. The crane will eventually be delivered to APMT at the Maasvlakte II harbour facility.
Never turn down a challenge
The crane arrived in pieces aboard an ocean-going vessel, and was then assembled over the course of nine weeks on a 10,000 m2 lot at the Broekman Project Services terminal.
It will require a great deal of care to move the crane to its destination. So the move will be completed in two phases: today the crane will be brought to the quay, and Friday it will be lifted from the quay to a pontoon barge and towed to the Maasvlakte II.
Jos Masselink (General Manager Project Services): “Broekman Logistics never turns down a challenge. So when Sarens asked us if we had the facilities available at our terminal, we immediately said yes.” Considering the width of the transport - a full 40 meters - many adjustments had to be made to transport the crane safely to the water’s edge. The task will require the services of two double 18-axle SPMTs.
