General Transport, Basel, member to the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) for Switzerland, has successfully transported two large and heavy LNG hyper compressor units and their auxiliaries totalling to 167 pieces, exceeding 1000 tons and close to 2000m3 of volume from their clients premises in Switzerland, Europe up to delivered on the jobsite in the Refinery in Point Comfort, Texas.  The operational scope included transportation by road and Rhine barge, chartering of the heavy lift vessel M/V “BBC SAPPHIRE”, US import customs clearance and timely delivery of the heavy lifts by SPMT modular trailers to the jobsite.     Heavy Lifts for this project included:
  • 2x Hyper Compressor, each Dimensions: 1135x 600x 264 cm 218 ton weight 
  • 1x Booster Compressor Dimensions:   888x 317x 220 cm /   56,7 ton weight
  • Break Bulk: 167x Colis / 1’028’129 kg / 1’994.972 m3
The experts from General Transport arranged for the loading of Heavy Lifts from special transport trailer and intermediate storage onto the Rhine barge m/s “AARGAU” with dedicated lifting equipment and slings. The shipment was discharged from the Rhine barge m/s “AARGAU” at a Terminal in the Port of Antwerp and afterwards loaded and stowed onto the Heavy Lift vessel M/V “BBC SAPPHIRE” for the atlantic ocean passage to the USA.
