Tradepoint Atlantic today announced that a new solar energy installation — among the largest in Maryland — is now operational.

Built by Solar Gaines LLC, the project consists of a 13.1 MW (DC) rooftop solar array on the second Floor & Decor building at Tradepoint Atlantic. It is expected to generate approximately 17,500 MWh of carbon-free electricity annually into the Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) service area.

Through a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with WGL Energy Services Inc. (WGL Energy), the project is designed to partially offset the electricity consumption of Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and provide BWI with renewable energy certificates (RECs). Tradepoint Atlantic’s proximity to BWI makes it an ideal location to generate this sustainable energy.

The new array complements and expands upon several existing rooftop solar installations across 5.4 million square feet at the vast Tradepoint Atlantic industrial facility totaling 26.4 MW (DC) of energy production onsite.
