STV, a leading professional services firm that plans, designs and manages infrastructure projects across North America, joins Sound Transit in celebrating the opening of the Lynnwood Link Extension, an 8.5-mile light rail route extending from Northgate into Snohomish County. Opening to the public on Friday, August 30, 2024, this project includes four new stations, allowing riders to travel between south Snohomish County and downtown Seattle, Sea-Tac Airport and more.
“The Lynnwood Link opening marks yet another significant milestone in STV’s ongoing partnership with Sound Transit,” said Bryan Williams, P.E., vice president and Pacific Northwest area manager at STV. “We are proud to support multiple transformative projects that will enhance regional connectivity and benefit communities throughout the Seattle metropolitan area.”
STV, in joint venture with Mott MacDonald, oversaw the systems construction for the Lynnwood Link Extension. The team, known as Northwest Transit Systems Partners, provided technical review, construction management, quality assurance and inspection services for the project’s traction power, communications, signaling and train control systems, contributing to the efficient operation of trains as well as helping create a safe and reliable experience for commuters.
The $3.1 billion Lynnwood Link Extension project expands Sound Transit’s light rail network with stations serving Shoreline South/148th, Shoreline North/185th, Mountlake Terrace and Lynnwood City Center. The project offers fast, frequent and reliable service, connecting south Snohomish County to the University of Washington in just 11 minutes, downtown Seattle in 28 minutes and Sea-Tac Airport in 56 minutes, with future connections to Seattle’s Eastside via the East Link. Sound Transit estimates the Lynnwood Link will accommodate 25,000 to 34,000 daily boardings.
