After having joined the World Ocean Council as members in July 2019 the networks Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC), Cargo Equipment Experts (CEE) and Priority Cargo Network accepted the invitation to attend the 7th Sustainable Ocean Summit (SOS) in Paris during 20th-22nd November 2019.
The network Director Wolfgang Karau states: "Shippers, carriers and other participants in logistics and transports can contribute to a clean evironment. This process has already started and will continue to embrace new technologies and initiatives. The WOC plays an important role to bring awareness and stimulate cooperation to all parties invested towards a cleaner future."
The World Ocean Council (WOC) Sustainable Ocean Summit (SOS) is the annual gathering of the global Ocean Business Community dedicated to advancing private sector action on responsible use of the seas. With the theme of “Investing in Ocean Futures: Finance and Innovation for the Blue Economy”, the SOS 2019 will be the foremost international business conference dedicated to investment and innovation for ocean sustainable development.
The 7th Sustainable Ocean Summit just ended after three tremendous days in Paris. “This is the first time that a secretary of state, from the host country, speaks during one of the conferences”, says Paul Holthus, Founding President and CEO, World Ocean Council. “This is, to my mind, a sign that the dialogue we have established over the last ten years is becoming stronger and credible, and that our transversal approach has a real impact on the preservation of our environment. "
Indeed, Brune Poirson, Secretary of State for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition of France participated in the introduction of the conference "Women in Ocean Industries: Leadership, Sustainable Development and Maritime Security.
“SOS connects all private and public actors to intensify a constructive dialogue for the sustainable development of the oceans through responsible "blue" growth”, says Paul Holthus, Founding President and CEO, World Ocean Council, “This conference has attracted those interested in industry leadership, collaboration and eats on to address ocean sustainability, science and stewardship. The increased number of delegates and speakers for the SOS 2019 is a clear measure of the importance of this gathering.”
This year in Paris, more than 350 participants from all five continents (30 nationalities) presented their activities progression in Corporate Ocean Responsibility.
For Christine Valentin, Chief Operating Officer of the World Ocean Council, “The SOS allows the possibility to meet international and national governments, the NGOs with the economic and industrial actors of the oceans. The sea generates a great diversity of activities and many environmental problems can only be solved by establishing a transversality between all the responsible economic actors in order to act effectively because nothing is worse than regulations that can not be put in place.
