Silvasti transports heavy transformer in Finland
Jun 27, 2017
In May 2017 Silvasti Heavy Ltd, member to the Cargo equipment Experts (CEE) network in Finland, transported a 290 ton transformer in Finland. Silvasti was responsible for the delivery from Helsinki Port to a substation in South Finland. The transport included mainly rail transportations.
The transport by railway took 4 days. All the reloading phases required jacking and skidding work, which were done by using Silvasti's customized jacking and skidding equipment.
This special jacking equipment has a lifting capacity up to 380 tons.
To safely exercise the rail transport the main railway needed to cut and move the main tracks to side tracks. The work was carried out on the terms of uninterrupted train traffic with a pretermined time schedule.
After the last re-loading, the final kilometers to the substation jobsite were carried out by Silvasti's 17 axle modular trailer. The total gross weight for the combination was more than 400 tons.
Silvasti's scope of work ended with the positioning of the transformer to its place at the substation.
