Washington, DC - Joint statement from Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA); Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee Chairman Jeff Denham (R-CA); and Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee Chairman Garret Graves (R-LA) on the Department of the Army’s intent to grant an easement in connection with the Dakota Access Pipeline: “We welcome news of this important step in advancing an infrastructure project that has already been thoroughly vetted, will create jobs, and will improve our Nation’s energy security. “Pipelines are an extremely safe and economical way to transport crude oil and critical energy resources throughout our country, and they are vital to a modern 21st century infrastructure for America. “The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, which is responsible for overseeing the safety of the pipelines in the United States, has devoted more than 400 inspection days to the Dakota Access project to ensure the pipeline is built safely and will be safely maintained.  Furthermore, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has spent more than two years consulting with the public and various state, tribal, and federal entities regarding the project.  Our Committee and Subcommittees will continue to provide oversight of these issues and agencies.”
