Canada has won a dispute over the termination date of export charges applied to softwood lumber to the US. As a result of the ruling, Ontario and Quebec softwood lumber exporters will no longer be assessed export charges of 0.1% and 2.6% respectively. Export charges collected after October 12, 2013, will be refunded. The export charges were the result of the US-Canada Softwood Lumber Agreement. An agreement intended to limit softwood lumber exports from Canada to the US to protect the US lumber market at a time that demand was particularly low. The agreement is scheduled to remain in effect through October 12, 2015.
