New Turkish Airport gets boarding bridges from Spain
Dec 13, 2017
In partnership and based on mutual effort between Kaleido Logistics, Spain and Smart Logistics, Turkey, both members to the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) for their respective countries, Kaleido was awarded the logistics for the delivery of 143 Passenger Boarding Bridges to the new Istanbul Grand Airport (IGA). This airport was constructed with a terminal over 1.3 million sqm, and capacity for over 90 million passengers annually.
Alongside Smart Lojistik, Kaleido handled the complete scope from origin to destination, which included the transport from manufacturers facilities in Spain up to Gijón port, custom clearance, port handling and up to loading onboard oceanvessel. Over the length of this ongoing project, a grand total of 15 shipments are expected, with a total volume of approximately 48600 m3. Smart Lojistik performed the operations of vessel discharge at Istanbul port, handling and final delivery to IGA of the Passenger Boarding Bridges, which ranged from 16 to 25 meters length.
One of the greatest challenges was the cargo complexity and short time window allowed for operations. Due to the experience from both Kaleido and Smart Logistik, this project has been a remarkable success.
