BOSTON, Massachusetts – Kleinfelder has announced that Margaret O’Meara has joined the firm as the Northeast Transportation Segment Leader. Working with leadership and technical teams across the Northeast, Margaret is responsible for client service, strategic planning, business development, and growth of Kleinfelder’s transportation practice.

With over 30 years of transportation experience in both the public and private sectors, Margaret promotes the key to successful leadership as effective communication and passion.  She has demonstrated these traits within her diverse background spanning technical, operations, project management, client service, and business development disciplines. 

Margaret began her public-sector career as an office engineer and then advanced through varied management positions for the MBTA’s Design and Construction Directorate. Eventually moving to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassHighway) as Assistant Area Construction Manager, Margaret provided direction and management of multiple contracts relative to the Central Artery/Tunnel Project at Logan International Airport. After advancing to District Highway Director in Central Massachusetts, Margaret engaged a diverse staff in providing exceptional service to 77 cities and towns. Later, as Assistant Commissioner, she developed and managed the statewide partnering program and chaired the Advisory Committee for the Commonwealth’s first horizontal design build project.  Within the private sector, Margaret has focused on project performance and outstanding client service, including strategic business development, and optimization and engagement of diverse teams to deliver results.

Recognizing the importance of giving voice to the industry, Margaret has served locally and nationally for Women in Transportation (WTS) and was honored with the International Woman of the Year Award in 2012. She was also recognized as the New England Person of the Year by the Construction Management Association of America (CMMA). In 2016, Margaret was named one of Conference of Minority Transportation Officials’ (COMTO) Women Who Move the Nation, citing her “status and role in the transportation industry as an inspiration to all women.”
