Swiveling traffic lights save time during night moves
Anacortes, Washington - Refining company Andeavor’s Clean Product Upgrade Project (CPUP) will allow the refinery to diversify production and meet new upcoming gasoline emission regulations. As part of these upgrades, Andeavor constructed expansion modules for its Naphtha Hydrotreating Unit and a new Isomerization Unit. Nine of these process modules destined for the refinery landed at the Port of Anacortes on September 30, 2017 and Mammoet was tasked with their transport to installation site at the refinery. The modules were transloaded from the ship and transported to a laydown yard and staged, ready for the final leg of the journey. Permitting allowed for one module to be moved per night as a public thoroughfare needed to be closed to traffic. In the very early morning hours on October 5th the first module was moved safely and successfully to site. The innovative addition of traffic light swivels saved time for the module moves. These swivels allow the signals to be turned in place allowing a load to pass. The signals would then be turned back to their original position. This approach eliminated the need to disconnect power and remove the signals. It also allowed to restore their operation quickly for the opening of the road to the public. The modules were moved one by one with the final move taking place on October 14, 2017.
“Mammoet did an outstanding job, specifically on the completion of the infrastructure modifications for the Heavy Haul Route. The crews for the OTR and SPMT work performed outstanding as well and represented professionalism and expertise that left me feeling 100% confident in Mammoet. These modules were delivered on-time and with zero incidents which is a tribute to the hard work that the entire team provided. Great job and a successful project” said Russell Marlowe, Lead Project Procurement Manager from Andeavor
