Jacksonville, FL - JAX Global Cargo LLC recently moved the Spacebuzz Rocket from the Port of Jacksonville to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Tex. for the 32nd Convention of Space Explorers. The rocket was presented to more than 125 students, astronauts and cosmonauts from around the world.

The Spacebuzz “Rocket” is a self-contained rocket experience module on trailer that houses the VR-technology that aspiring astronauts will use to go on future space “missions.” “The immersive VR experience was perceived as very realistic by the astronauts,” said British astronaut Helen Sherman. “This Spacebuzz experience actually made me feel quite like I was back in space”.

The value of experiencing the Overview Effect – a cognitive shift in awareness often experienced by astronauts while viewing the Earth in the immeasurable vastness of space – was widely recognized by the astronauts. “When I was in space, being able to look down at the earth and realize that I’m looking down at 7 billion people. Our job is to take care of each other and take care of our environment at the same time,” said American astronaut Guy Gardener. It was even indicated by some astronauts that we should move beyond school children.

JAX Global Cargo was hired by Spacebuzz organizers to move the self-contained experience module from its arrival at the Port of Jacksonville, Fla. to its temporary destination at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Tex. The all-in-one unit weights less than 20,000 lbs. but has an insured value of more than $300,000.

“We were honored to have been selected to coordinate the transfer of the Spacebuzz Rocket,” said Chris Sloope, chief operating officer of JAX Global Cargo LLC. “We see the enormous value of the Spacebuzz program and our experience moving large-scale project cargo gave us the confidence we needed to make it happen. This project presented some unique challenges as the Spacebuzz trailer was built for the European market. Only a few U.S trucks could actually haul this and we had to purchase bar lights and provide a transport tag to move this unit. We utilized our best resources for this one, including our colleagues at AGX Freight.”
