Hendrik Veder Group offers specialised services for maritime and offshore projects.
Hendrik Veder Group Solutions has been commissioned to install 3,000 metres of new, non-rotating hoisting cable into the crane of one of world’s largest pipe-laying vessels. Hendrik Veder Group offers specialised services that ensure this hoisting cable will be used in the most sustainable way possible. These services include Hendrik Veder Group’s full inspection of the cable on board. The replacement steel cable is 3,000 metres in length, with a diameter of 76 millimetres. It is treated with an environmentally friendly lubricant known as EAL.
Specialised services for projects on board of vessels
The 3,000-metre non-rotating cable is inspected for safety and functionality on board using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This ensures that the cable is suitable for long-term, sustainable use. The Solutions department at Hendrik Veder Group provides a full range of specialised services, from spooling and reeving cranes, to inspecting and testing the rigging (including proof load testing). Each member of this professional team is trained and certified to ensure that safety comes first.
The hoisting cable weighs 95 tonnes and is to be installed in the crane of a megaship. It will be treated with an environmentally friendly lubricant using VIPER, a high-tech compressed air system that pumps the lubricant onto the cable, ensuring better, longer-lasting coating. The lubricant is biodegradable and non-bioaccumulative. It has a minimal negative impact on aquatic ecosystems (including fish, marine plant life, etc.) and is required for use in equipment with oil-to-sea interfaces.
Reaching sustainability targets with a process approach
During this project, the old cable will be retained so that it can be used in case of an emergency or reused in other ways. This is one of the ways in which Hendrik Veder Group demonstrates its process approach, applying expertise and experience to develop the smartest ways of using hoisting equipment.
Egbert Vennik, CEO of Hendrik Veder Group, says, ‘We are happy to see that more and more companies are interested in our process approach. We make the difference by working alongside our clients to analyse processes. Our team has the knowledge and expertise to see where we can lower costs and put sustainability on the agenda. In this case, that means retaining the old cable, so there is less waste.’
