Greencarrier Freight Services achieves ISO standards for its Energy and Project Business Unit
Jan 19, 2015
“As a new and relatively small company in the oil & gas and project logistics industries, we have to produce a level of quality, personal service and knowledge that exceeds what the competition is doing,” says Georg Skivik Moltu, Director Energy & Projects and Head of HSE & QA, Greencarrier.
“International standards such as ISO 9001-2008 and ISO 14001 are strategic tools and guidelines to help companies like Greencarrier tackle some of the most demanding challenges of modern business. They help us to improve the quality of our services, sharpen our business processes and increase our efficiency – all for the benefit of our customers, partners, staff and owners.”
Most potential customers, including global oil companies, oil service companies, drillers and manufacturers of oil and maritime equipment, require suppliers to have systems which are in line with ISO 9001 and 14001, and some of them require that suppliers are ISO certified as well.
“By completing ISO 14001 certification, our organization can assure stakeholders that our environmental management system (EMS) meets international industry-specific environmental standards whereby we agree on environmental targets and implement an environmental action plan,” explains Mr Moltu. “But we are going further than that – we are offering our clients an emission report tool as well as implementing fleet monitoring on our own dedicated truck fleet during 2015.”
The ISO 9001 standard provides a framework of globally recognized principles of quality management including: customer focus, leadership, involvement of people, process approach to management, continual improvement, factual approach to decision making and mutually beneficial supplier relationships.
“Going through an ISO certification process ensures we have the structure and procedures in place to not only work to the required standards but to also implement a process of continuous improvement to the benefit of our clients. The implementation of harmonized processes helps us to focus on increasing customer satisfaction as well as winning new customers and building market share,” says Mr Moltu.
Greencarrier Freight Services, which offers the full range of freight forwarding, port logistics and logistics services, has identified project forwarding and the energy industry as a target area for growth over the coming years.
In 2014 it opened an office in Stavanger, Norway and recruited Mr Moltu, who has extensive experience in developing logistics solutions for both these industries, to lead the new business unit. He says the staff have done a great job. “After only one year in operation the Energy & Project Business Unit has already passed the year-three financial and market targets set out in the five-year business plan.”
Mr Moltu concludes: “We believe that the ISO certifications will help us to compete with larger enterprises for future major contracts in the energy and project markets and that the certification will support us in future business performance. Our customers require flexible, bespoke transport and logistics services, which in most cases are highly time critical. We have the people, the partners and the processes to ensure we continue to grow our business and improve customer satisfaction.”
