International logistics and transportation specialist Dimerco has delivered the first three of a total eleven helicopters to the Indonesian government on behalf of its client, a leading helicopter manufacturer in Italy, saving the client substantial costs. The helicopters, each weighing 3,500 kgs, were transported from Italy to Jakarta in Indonesia via Ocean freight. Dimerco’s dedicated team in Jakarta, working with strategic partners in Italy, managed the end-to-end process with customized protection, including last mile delivery from port to destination.
A spokesperson for Dimerco commented, “Dimerco enjoys a well-respected reputation in this specialized sector for transporting the high value cargo. Our experience of handling the movement of helicopters, together with our global network of trusted partners, enabled us to secure the bid for this project, delivering a customized solution at a highly competitive rate.”
“As experts in handling helicopter shipments, our team studied the route extensively with the client, checking road conditions from the port of Tanjung Priok to final destination. The consignment took five hours to be processed at the Indonesian port, three hours to deliver to the destination due to local restrictions and a further three hours to unload.”
To ensure the safety of the high value cargo, Dimerco coordinated long-term partner trucking companies for specialist loading and unloading of the helicopters and accessories. This required two cranes, two forklifts, three special nine-meter dollies. In addition, Dimerco arranged for a certified lashing company to make two customized wing boxes to ensure secure carriage as well as implementing insurance to cover the safe loading /unloading and transportation of the helicopters.
“Handling oversized heavy duty cargo requires not only experienced and professional partners, but also onsite teamwork to provide the flexibility necessary for operational efficiency and cargo safety. In this case, our own personnel worked closely with local service providers to ensure a seamless journey and successful delivery of the first three helicopters for our client.” Dimerco’s spokesperson concluded. “We anticipate handling the transportation of the remaining rotorcraft over the coming months.”
