Compass hauls world’s largest laser
Jul 18, 2017
Jamaica, NY - Project-logistics firm Compass Forwarding has completed the door-to-door movement of the world’s largest metal fabrication laser. The project involved ocean freight and trucking haulage of the 400,000 pound machine over 7,000 miles from the factory in Southeastern Europe to Lindon, Utah. Dedicated teams in both the United States and Europe worked seamlessly for several weeks in planning and executing every step of the project. This included complete logistics management and consulting, pre-positioning of seven specialized ocean freight containers, on-site loading support and surveying, route planning, and securing specialized trucking permits and exemptions in several states.
With dual shuttle tables over 60 feet long, the Revolution Machine Tools (RMT) Kyson 860 is the world’s largest metal fabrication laser. The Compass team worked closely with RMT to meet tight pickup and delivery deadlines and to develop a highly-specialized oversized trucking solution to meet the manufacturer’s unique handling requirements.
“Developing bespoke transportation solutions for heavy, specialty equipment has always been a strategic priority of ours,” commented Robert M. Shelala II, Compass’ Associate Director for Aviation and Defense. “This shipment demonstrates that our global team is able to handle any project challenge.”
