TOKYO-Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL: President & CEO: Junichiro Ikeda) today announced that on Friday, July 21, its operated car carrier the Serenity Ace called at the Port of Naha—the first MOL car carrier to call at a port in Okinawa, Japan, and loaded 123 used cars bound for New Zealand. This is a part of a demonstration project for a used-car export business model as part of the "2017 International Logistics Business Model Creation Project" backed by Okinawa Prefecture's Business Promotion Subsidy program (Note).

The Serenity Ace arrived at 6:54 a.m. and set sail at 15:30 the afternoon of the same day. It will call at several loading ports in Japan and South Korea, and is scheduled to arrive at the Port of Auckland around August 18. The company shared scenes of the used car loading operations with government officials, media, and port and harbor authorities, and MOL and other consortium members made a study about the significance of this demonstration project and future issues to be addressed to ensure effective commercialization.
