Rotterdam - The 1000th gas turbine from Siemens arrived at the Broekman Logistics Breakbulk Terminal (Project Services) in the Waalhaven, Rotterdam. The gas turbine was produced in Berlin and will be shipped to its final destination via the Port of Rotterdam. The end customer is the project development company Umm al Houl in Qatar. Umm Al Houl power plant in Qatar The 1000th gas turbine is one of six gas turbines that will be shipped to the Umm Al Houl power plant in Qatar. The plant, with a total generating capacity of 2.5 GigaWatts, and which will supply power to 14 million people, should be operational by mid-2018. The turbine was first transported from the factory to the Westhafen of Berlin. It journeyed from Berlin to the Port of Rotterdam by barge via inland waterways. At Broekman, it will be loaded onto a heavy cargo ship. Its route to Qatar will take it through the North Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean, the Suez canal and the Red Sea. Jos Masselink, General Manager Broekman Project Services, emphasises: “We are proud to trans-ship this 1000th Siemens gas turbine at our terminal. It is a true milestone for our company. Handling heavy cargo is our specialty, and it was a good choice for Siemens to entrust this project to Broekman Project Services. And of course, we are looking forward to more of these assignments in the future.”
