Beluga Projects transports heavy transformers in icy winter conditions
Mar 22, 2017
Beluga Projects Logistic JSC, member to the Cargo Equipment Experts (CEE) network in Russia, finished a project of moving of 7 units of heavy power equipment (power transformers with max. unit weight up to 120 tons) for “RN-Uvatneftegaz” LLC.
The work started at the customer’s warehouse of urban-type settlement Turtas, Tyumen Region and after loading and fastening the cargoes were successfully delivered to three different oil-field Power Supply Stations.
The scope of work included: forwarding and transportation, getting of necessary permits, insurance, loading, transportation, unloading of equipment and other related services.
The transportation was carried out along the winter road with limited capacity and limited load on the axles of vehicles, as well as by bridges and rivers ice crossings of Turtas, Demyanka and Urna. The longitudinal slopes in some areas reached 17°. For transportation Volvo 6x6 and modular trailers Scheuerle and Faymonville were used. Loading and unloading was carried out using the hydraulic portal system SBL 1100 Enerpac, which provides high safety of work and installation. The usage of this system made possible to install power transformers and a reactor directly on the foundation without using heavy-duty truck cranes and additional rigging and assembly works. It significantly reduced the costs for the customer.
All the services were carried out at low temperatures down to -25° – 27°C. The trailers and equipment used showed itself perfectly in such difficult conditions.
The weather forecast indicated the near thaw, and as a result, the deterioration of the winter road and inability to pass the ice crossings. So it was necessary to accelerate the transportation, and it was done in the best way. The works were made ahead of schedule and the equipment was successfully demobilized before the spring flood began.
