Downers Grove, IL - AllTranstek, LLC recently announced that it provided the infrastructure behind an experiment for the MythBusters television program. The episode will be aired January 16, 2016 on the Discovery Channel, 8:00 PM Eastern / 7:00 PM Central. This experiment involved two scrap tank cars delivered to a site near the small eastern Oregon town of Boardman. AllTranstek played a vital role in the process from start to finish, procuring the railcars for MythBusters, arranging the logistics, and providing technical support and oversight for the experiment. The MythBusters web site describes the upcoming episode, "Tanker Crush," Jan. 16, 2016: "This season, Jamie and Adam try something they've never done before: an Implosion caused by a vacuum. The tall tale goes that a freight train tank car was being steam cleaned when a rainstorm let loose. The engineers made the mistake of sealing the container full of hot steam and headed home. The rain cooled the tank car, the steam condensed and contracted, and the resulting pressure differential caused the massive steel tank car to crumple like a soda can. Is it possible? The MythBusters devote an entire episode and embark on the biggest logistical operation in their history to find out." Visit www.alltranstek.com/mythbusters.html to find out more about AllTranstek’s involvement in the experiment, with full details to be added after episode air date. Also, look for a full-length follow up article detailing the experience and key takeaways, in AllTranstek’s RailBlazers™ Newsletter next Wednesday, January 20th.
